Barker is the oldest footwear companies in England; Arthur Barker has been making shoes in Northamptonshire village of Earl’s Barton since the year 1880. Arthur Barker was a natural innovator and skilled craftsman who employed other craftsmen from villages in surrounding areas for fulfilling his growing business of very popular waterproof peg-sole shoes. Barker developed a factory which supplied the British army with shoes during the First World War. Barker shoes business flourished further when Arthur’s three sons expanded the business to new markets.
